Non-Pressure PVC System Dimensions

Interpreting PVC Dimensions & Standards
Understanding the relationship between nominal and actual dimensions is critical for accurate hydraulic modelling and on-site installation. Iplex PVC systems are manufactured to specific Australian Standards (AS/NZS), where "Nominal" sizes do not always equal the physical measurement.
DN vs. OD vs. ID
A higher pressure rating requires a thicker wall, which reduces the ID.
DN (Nominal Diameter)
A dimensionless alphanumeric designation used for reference. For example, a DN150 pipe is a reference term, not an exact measurement of 150mm.
OD (Outside Diameter)
The critical dimension for jointing. In PVC systems, the OD is controlled to ensure compatibility with fittings and couplings.
ID (Inside Diameter / Mean Bore)
The critical dimension for hydraulic capacity. Unlike OD, the ID varies based on the Pressure Class (PN) or Stiffness Rating (SN).
